Life Moves Fast
Between screens, schedules, pressure, and constant distractions, many families are searching for something that feels more meaningful, more connected, more intentional, and more grounded.
Hydaway Collective was created to offer exactly that.
Through hands-on learning, outdoor experiences, wellness gatherings, camps, horses, retreats, and community-centered programs, Hydaway Collective creates opportunities for people to slow down, reconnect, and experience life in a more meaningful way.
Whether it’s a child building confidence through horsemanship, a homeschool family looking for enriching educational experiences, a couple reconnecting during a retreat weekend, or friends gathering around a campfire under the stars, the goal is always the same: creating experiences that leave people feeling more connected, inspired, and restored.
Each Hydaway Collective location offers unique programs and experiences inspired by its surroundings, but all are rooted in the same belief: some of life’s most important moments happen when we step away from the noise and reconnect with people, nature, and ourselves.
THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME
Rooted in a legacy that began generations ago on Candler's Mountain in Virginia, Hydaway draws its inspiration from a special place created by the founder’s grandfather: Camp Hydaway. The land itself traces back to a historic land grant gifted by Thomas Jefferson, and for decades, Camp Hydaway welcomed generations of children, families, and friends seeking a slower, more connected way of life.
The spelling of “Hydaway” was intentionally chosen as a nod to the family’s Irish roots. Over time, the camp became known for its simple magic… long summer days outdoors, horses in the pasture, swimming holes, campfires, shared meals, and the kind of genuine connection that happens when technology fades away and nature takes center stage. It was a place where people could breathe deeply, feel grounded, and reconnect with themselves, each other, and the natural world.
Today, Hydaway carries that spirit forward for a new generation. Inspired by the values of the original camp, Hydaway was created as a place for people of all ages to reconnect with a more meaningful rhythm of life; one rooted in nature, creativity, adventure, community, and presence. Through horses, outdoor experiences, shared gatherings, hands-on learning, wellness offerings, and unplugged moments, Hydaway encourages both children and adults to slow down, explore, create, and rediscover the joy of simple living.
At its heart, Hydaway is more than a camp or gathering place, it is a continuation of a legacy built around connection, wonder, hospitality, and the belief that some of life’s most meaningful moments happen outside, together, and away from the noise of everyday life.
Why Hydaway Collective Was Created
Hydaway Collective was built around a growing need for experiences that feel more intentional, immersive, and human.
We saw the need for:
- Educational experiences that extend beyond traditional classrooms
- Spaces where children can explore, create, and learn hands-on
- Wellness experiences that feel approachable, restorative, and grounded in nature
- Community-centered gatherings that encourage authentic connection
- Destinations that allow people to slow down and reconnect with themselves and each other
Every Collective location and program is designed to support those goals while adapting to the unique environment and offerings of each destination.
